www.work-experience.org
The site for work experience in the UK is the National Council for Work Experience.
This promotes all aspects of work experience as benefiting students, employers and the UK economy as a whole. It is the first place for anyone in education seeking to establish a work experience programme.
www.uce.ac.uk/crq/publications/we/

edina.ac.uk/projects/mapscholar/docs/wam-vp.ppt
Edina has a particularly interesting, if somewhat subject specific, example of simulated work experience in the area of geography/ planning.
The aim is for the students to propose the optimum location for locating wind turbines while minimizing their visual impact. They solve the problem using a geographical information system to integrate significant amounts of conflicting information from a range of data sources.
